Public Hearing Notice Fitchburg - Improvements at Memorial Middle School - Safe Routes to School (SRTS)
Overview
A Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Improvements at Memorial Middle School - Safe Routes to School (SRTS) project in Fitchburg, MA.
Purpose:
The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Improvements at Memorial Middle School (SRTS) project. All views and comments submitted in response to the meeting will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.
Proposal:
The proposed project consists of pedestrian and bicycle improvements to the streets abutting the Memorial Middle School located at 615 Rollstone Street in Fitchburg. Memorial Middle School houses grades 5 through 8. The main entrance to the school building is located on Rollstone Street, just north of Causeway Street. A secondary entrance is located off the school’s main parking lot on Causeway Street, west of Rollstone Street. Rollstone Street and Causeway Street are two of the main routes for students in the neighborhoods to the northwest and northeast to get to and from school. Work will include provision of shared use paths on the east side of Causeway Street and the west side of Rollstone Street with improvements to crosswalks, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and minor curb adjustments.
A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The City of Fitchburg is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
Project inquiries, written statements and other exhibits regarding the proposed undertaking may be submitted to Carrie E. Lavallee, P.E., Chief Engineer, via e-mail to MassDOTProjectManagement@dot.state.ma.us or via US Mail to Suite 7550, 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116, Attention: Project Management, Project File No. 612895.
