Public Meeting Notice  Hatfield-Whately - Bridge preservation, Routes 5 & 10 over I-91 (separate crossings)

Overview

A Virtual Public Informational Meeting will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed projects in Hatfield-Whatley, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed project. All views and comments submitted in response to the meeting will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

This Bridge Preservation project consists of replacing the bridge decks on Bridge Nos. H-11-030, W-33-019, and W-33-020 (separate crossings) that carry Routes 5 and 10 over Interstate 91 in the towns of Hatfield and Whatley. The construction sequencing will require lane reductions on the bridges with temporary signals and alternating traffic flows as well as temporary lane closures on I-91 below during bridge deck demolition and erection. 

The work includes reconstruction of the bridge wingwalls, installation of guardrail, repairs to existing bridge girders and beams, replacement of the bridge decks, and protective fencing. The work also includes vegetation clearing on adjacent areas, new pavement, curbs, wheelchair accessible ramps and installation of signs and pavement markings.

Bicycle accommodations consisting of a 5’-2” wide bicycle lane has been provided in accordance with applicable design guides.

This meeting is accessible to people with disabilities.
