Overview   of Invitation for Bids: Track Rehabilitation on the Ware River Secondary

Massachusetts Central Railroad (“MCER”) is soliciting bids on behalf of Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) for the following project. MassDOT owns the ROW, track and associated facilities on the line. MCER, under contract to MassDOT and by contractual obligation, is responsible for the care and control of the state-owned rights-of-way and related property. This Invitation for Bids is issued pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws, Ch. 30, §39M.

The Project:

Furnish labor, equipment and material to perform tie and rail replacement with associated other railroad rehabilitation work on the Ware River Secondary line which runs northeast from Palmer, MA, for approximately 25 miles to So. Barre, MA.

Prospective bidders must be prequalified before the opening of proposals for this work. Bidders must have current MBTA Pre-Qualification Certificate for Class 1-General Transit Construction and/or Class 3–Trackwork for an $5 million contract value.

A mandatory pre-bid meeting and site tour will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. See bid documents for details and requirements. No award will be given to a contractor not prequalified as described above and not at the pre-bid. In the event of inclement weather leading to postponement of the pre-bid meeting, prospective bidders that have requested bid documents will be notified 24 hours in advance of an alternate date and time for the meeting.

Paper sealed bids only will be accepted until Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Bid opening will be 3:30 p.m. at 151 Campanelli Dr., Middleborough, MA.
