Public Hearing Notice  Lawrence - Roadway Reconstruction on Amesbury Street

A Live Virtual Design Public Hearing will be published/hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Roadway Reconstruction on Amesbury Street project in Lawrence, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Roadway Reconstruction on Amesbury Street project.  All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consist of converting Amesbury Street from one-way vehicular travel in the southbound direction to two-way vehicular traffic flow between Lawrence Street and Canal Street, upgrading traffic signal equipment at the existing signalized intersections along Amesbury Street to accommodate two-way vehicular travel and to provide accessible pedestrian traffic signal infrastructure. Also included are ADA compliant pedestrian facilities and curb ramps throughout the corridor, implementing access management measures for adjacent commercial driveways, and resurfacing the pavement within the project limits. The project also includes upgrading the terminus of the Amesbury Street corridor at the intersection of Amesbury Street, Lawrence Street and Chestnut Street by constructing a four (4) legged roundabout. Bicycle accommodations consisting of a 5’ bicycle lane have been provided in accordance with applicable design guides.

A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The city is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
