Public Meeting Notice  Newton - Safety improvements at interchange 127 (Newton Corner)

A Live Virtual Public Information Meeting will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to provide the public the work schedule, anticipated impacts, and how to most efficiently use the new configuration of the intersection.

MassDOT will implement, in coordination with the City of Newton, immediate safety improvements at the I-90 EB off-ramp at Newton Corner. The improvements will enhance safety and traffic circulation until more substantial improvements are identified in a long-term study currently underway by MassDOT Office of Transportation Planning.

The work will consist of installing one signal at the I-90 EB off-Ramp and Washington Street, eliminating a dangerous weave and will help address the backup of the ramp onto the mainline of I-90EB during peak hours. Next Spring, a second signal will be installed at the request of the City. Additional work will include milling, paving, pavement markings, signage, traffic signal upgrades and signal timing and coordination.

MassDOT District 6 will be doing this work through its resources/on-call contracts. The work is a recommended action from a larger, ongoing study and development process working towards mid-term capital improvement work.
