Overview   of Northampton - Bridge Replacement, N-19-068, Old Springfield Road over the Mill River

A Live Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Northampton – Old Springfield Rd over the Mill River project in Northampton, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Northampton – Old Springfield Rd over the Mill River project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists will include construction of new roadway and bridge approaches. The one lane roadway which will carry two-way traffic and consist of one 12’-0” travel lane with 2’-0” shoulders for a total roadway width of 16’-0” curb to curb. There will be no sidewalks on the bridge or approaches. Due to the low speeds and low volumes, the intent of the single lane bridge is to facilitate all users in a shared condition (pedestrians, bicycles, and vehicles). There are no dedicated sidewalks within several miles of the project site.

A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The city is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.

Statements and exhibits intended for inclusion in the hearing transcript must be emailed or postmarked no later than ten (10) business days after the hearing is hosted.
