Overview
A Design Public Hearing will be held to present the design for the proposed project in Norwood, MA.
Purpose:
The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.
Proposal:
The purpose of the project is to provide operational improvements through the intersection and enhance pedestrian and bicycle access along Route 1 and University Avenue, as well as through the intersection. This involves adding travel and turning lanes at the approaches to the intersection, as well as a new traffic signal, and construction of new sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and shared use paths. Work includes drainage system modification, vertical granite curb, guardrail, culvert reconstruction, utility pole relocations, permanent property takings, etc. The total combined length of roadway improvements is 5,900 feet and the project is currently programmed for $26.5 million. Bicycle accommodations consisting of an 8’ Shared Use Path have been provided in accordance with applicable design guides.
A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
