Public Hearing Notice  Public Hearing for the Proposed Revocation of the Area Agency on Aging Designation Status of South Shore Elder Services, Inc.

The Executive Office of Aging & Independence (AGE) will hold a virtual public hearing to receive comments on its proposed revocation of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) designation of South Shore Elder Services, Inc. (SSES).

SSES is currently the designated AAA for the South Shore Planning and Service Area, which includes Braintree, Cohasset, Hingham, Holbrook, Hull, Milton, Norwell, Quincy, Randolph, Scituate, and Weymouth.

AAAs help administer services and supports funded through the federal Older Americans Act, including nutrition services, health and wellness programs, caregiver supports, legal assistance, and other services for older adults.

AGE has proposed revoking SSES’ AAA designation based on concerns regarding SSES’ financial condition and its ability to maintain operations in compliance with federal Older Americans Act requirements and its AAA contract. AGE is seeking public comment on the proposed action. Relevant comments received will be considered as AGE makes its final determination, along with any practical alternatives brought to AGE’s attention. If SSES’ AAA designation is ultimately revoked, AGE will ensure continuity of services and designate another entity as the AAA for the South Shore Planning and Service Area.
