Overview of Public Meeting on the Morgan-Sullivan Bridge Replacement Project
Please join the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) for a public meeting regarding the upcoming $21.5 million project to replace the Morgan-Sullivan Bridge that carries Suffield Street/Memorial Avenue (Route 147) over the Westfield River between West Springfield and Agawam. The project will also reconstruct and add new traffic signals to three intersections:
- Memorial Avenue at River Street in West Springfield
- Springfield Street (Route 147) at Main Street/Suffield Street in Agawam
- Springfield Street (Route 147) at Walnut Street/Walnut Street Extension in Agawam
Preliminary bridge work for this project is currently expected to begin in early October, and traffic setups will be put in place by November, including long-term lane closures. These lane closures will mean that vehicles will have access to one lane of travel in each direction over the bridge. This configuration is expected to remain in place 24/7 until the end of 2021 when the new bridge is anticipated to be open with four lanes.
At this public meeting, MassDOT staff and project team members will provide information on upcoming construction activities and the work schedule, and answer questions from members of the public.
