Overview   of Randolph - Route 24 bridges over Canton Street

A Virtual Design Public Hearing will be published on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Route 24 bridges over Canton Street project in Randolph, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Route 24 Bridge project.  All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of the replacement of the superstructures on the MA Route 24 bridges over Canton Street.  The proposed bridges will match the footprint of the existing bridges.  Currently there are no bicycle or pedestrian facilities on Route 24 within close proximity of the bridge and none are proposed as these users are prohibited on this roadway.  There are existing sidewalks and striped shoulders on both sides of Canton St underneath the bridges and they will remain. The existing concrete abutments will remain with concrete repairs proposed.  Improvements are also proposed to the roadway approaches, drainage structures, and protective guardrail on both ends of the bridge. Overhead wires above the bridges are proposed to be relocated underground. Discussions are scheduled with the utility companies to determine the best location(s) for these facilities and whether the relocations can be made permanent. Underground utility services carried under Canton Street will be maintained during construction.  The proposed construction staging and traffic management details will be provided at the hearing.

All work is proposed to take place within the state highway layout, with no proposed permanent right of way acquisitions or temporary easements. This information will be presented to the public during the hearing, along with MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions.

Project inquiries, written statements and other exhibits regarding the proposed undertaking may be submitted to Carrie E. Lavallee, P.E., Acting Chief Engineer, via e-mail to dot.feedback.highway@state.ma.us or via US Mail to Suite 6340, 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116, Attention: Major Projects, Project File No. 612188.
