Overview   of Restorative Justice Advisory Committee Meeting

The Restorative Justice Advisory Committee will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 9th, 2019 at 1 Ashburton Place, 10th Floor, Charles River Conference Room, Room #1002.

1. Call to Order

At 11:05AM, Chair Deputy Secretary Jennifer Queally called this meeting of the Restorative Justice Advisory Committee to order.

4. Review/Approval of Meeting Minutes from March 12, 2019

A motion (NC) was made to approve the minutes pending the edits. The motion was seconded (ST) and passed unanimously.

5. Presentation by Strong Oak Lefebvre, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Visioning B.E.A.R Intertribal  Coalition, Inc. "Restorative Justice from an Indigenous Perspective: Building Safe Communities"

Strong Oak Lefebvre gives a powerful presentation on Restorative Justice from an Indigenous Perspective. Her presentation focuses on best circle practices. The circles of support for restoring communities to wholeness. She also talked about different modules of teaching and how everything gets intertwine into one. She stated that all conversations are recorded and that helps with evaluation and data gathering. Overall the presentation was great and well received by the board members.

6. Determine Subcommittees

After a long discussion on determine subcommittees, the committee decided to re-group in May and only schedule the forming of the subcommittees. The memo from Susan Jeghelian and Carolyn Boyes-Watson served as a great foundation on subcommittee names and descriptions, but more time was needed. Some board members might even want to tackle a new RFI in a subcommittee format.

7. Change Date of Next Meeting (5/14/19)

A tentative date of May 7, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. was chosen by the committee.

8. Public Comment (10 minutes)

Public Comment was open for a couple of minutes (1-2) and the public didn’t make any comments.

9. Open Session for Topics Not Reasonably Anticipated within 48 Hours of the Meeting

10. Adjourn

Sheriff Cocchi made a motion to adjourn, motion was second by Hon. Minehan and approved unanimously. The meeting concluded at 1:00 p.m.
