Overview

Held during Massachusetts school vacation week, this signature event transforms a day at the Aquarium into a powerful experience celebrating and protecting the critically endangered North Atlantic Right Whale.

This year comes at a pivotal moment. While there are hopeful signs—including a rare “baby boom” with nearly two dozen calves born—some whales have died and only about 384 right whales remain. The need for collective action has never been more urgent.

What to Expect

Right Whale day attendant talks to visitors.

Right Whale Day brings together art, science, and community to inspire awareness and action:

  • Explore biodiversity and everyday actions that support conservation
  • Experience art, storytelling, and science that make right whales “visible”

Dive into an interactive, hands-on, festival-style celebration filled with activities, engaging science experiences, and opportunities to connect with right whale conservationists.

Additional Highlights

  • Online Auction (April 15–25): Featuring original marine-life-inspired artwork by Massachusetts artists
  • Whale Plate Raffle: Take your chance to win a coveted low-number right whale license plate—each featuring a unique, whale-inspired number—while directly supporting critical conservation efforts to protect this endangered species.
