Overview
Saturday Hiking Series
Get to know beautiful shoreline views of the Wachusett Reservoir with this hiking series in each of the four towns of the reservoir. The winter landscape reveals features hidden the rest of the year. Hikes are moderate, with some hills to rewarding views from a new perspective each week.
Then and Now Hike
Meet at Wachusett Reservoir Gate 35, intersection of Route 110 and Chace Hill Rd, Sterling. About 4 miles round trip.
Find evidence of the past and compare the landscape over time, from glacial lake to farmsteads, to reservoir and protected watershed.
Dress for the weather, be prepared for windy conditions near the water. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Bring trekking poles, ice cleats, or snowshoes depending on trail condition.
Dogs are not allowed on water supply protection lands.
Hikes will be a slow pace and last about two hours. In the case of inclement weather, hike may be cancelled or modified. To check on hike status please call 617-352-4044 or email Kathryn.Parent@mass.gov.
