The Division of Local Services legal staff will offer its annual seminar "What's New in Municipal Law" for local officials on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Bentley University Conference Center in Waltham. The seminar will be held in person.

The seminar kicks off with a general morning session highlighting new legislation, recent court decisions pertaining to local government, including Appellate Tax Board cases, and DLS updates. The afternoon session will consist of three concurrent workshops that will discuss current and recurring issues of interest related to: (1) treasurer/collector issues like betterments, credit cards and reward points, obscure liens and related processes, third party requests for shared bank accounts, federal tariff taxes and USPS changes, among other topics; (2) accounting issues like betterments, credit cards and reward points, obscure liens and related processes, third party requests for shared bank accounts, federal tariff taxes and USPS changes, among other topics; and (3) assessing issues like the Mass Ready Act, veteran exemptions including the implementation of the HERO Act, USPS changes, state owned land commission, trust issues, solar panels on parsonages, legislative proposals, Servicemember Relief Act (SCRA) and Clause 56, among other topics.
