Overview of Wilmington - Proposed Butters Row Bridge over MBTA project
A Live Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Butters Row Bridge over MBTA project in Wilmington, MA.
The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Butters Row Bridge over MBTA project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.
The proposed project consists of replacing the existing 3-span timber bridge structure at Butter row over MBTA Railroad in Wilmington. Existing utility poles will be relocated, and the water line currently located to the south of the bridge is proposed to be, moved onto the bridge. Roadway approaches, sidewalks, landscaping and the alignment of the Butter Row, Cross Street, Main Street intersection will be re-aligned. The new bridge will provide pedestrian access via a 2 - 5.5-foot sidewalks and bicycle access via a 5 foot shoulder in each direction in accordance with applicable design guides. The bridge will be closed during construction and a detour provided.
A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
