Highway Utility Relocation

MassDOT's Utility Section works with utility owners and contractors to coordinate utility relocation before construction.

The goal of the Utility Section is to reduce project delays by streamlining the utility relocation process.

During the early design phases of all MassDOT roadway and bridge projects, the Utility Section meets with affected utility owners to coordinate relocation. The Section is also responsible for reimbursing utility owners for the cost of relocation under MassDOT's policies and directives.
