What you need for Apply for a Journeyman Gas Fitter license
To become a journeyman gas fitter you'll need to submit a Journeyman Gas Fitter Examination Application to the Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters online. Applications mailed to the board will be returned. Complete the Journeyman Gas Fitter Examination Application by including the following information:
- Your High school diploma, transcripts or G.E.D.
- An Education Verification form signed by an official at your school
- A Statement of Experience Form signed by your supervising master gas fitter
- Notary seal
- Criminal Offender Record Information Acknowledgement (CORI) Form
- A 2” x 2” color passport photo
- The Application Checklist (provided in the application)
Once your application for examination is accepted you can register to take the exam. After receiving a passing score on the exam the Board of Examiners will approve your license.
Fees for Apply for a Journeyman Gas Fitter license
The Board of Examiners collects a non-refundable Application Fee payable to "The Commonwealth of Massachusetts".
A separate License Fee is charged to you when you pass the exam. Please be prepared to pay this fee at the test center in order to get your license. You can pay by:
- Credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover)
- Money order
- Cashier's check or company check (made payable to PSI Exams).

How to apply Apply for a Journeyman Gas Fitter license
To apply online, register for an account using the Massachusetts E-Licensing and E-Permitting Portal also know as ePLACE. This will allow you to apply for licenses, make online payments, renew your license and update your contact information through your online account.
Once your application for the Journeyman Gas Fitter Examination has been received, reviewed and approved by the Board, you can register online to take the exam at a designated testing center.

Get the Board's Approval to Take the Journeyman Gas Fitter Exam
The Board will review your application and either approve or deny your application to take the exam. If your application is incomplete or you haven't shown the minimum education and work experience requirements, the Board will return your original application, any additional documentation to complete the application and a notice explaining why your application was not approved. Incomplete applications will only be kept on file for 180 days.
You will be notified of the Board's decision by a third party testing agency called PSI Exams who will help you schedule to take your exam online or in-person at a designated testing center.
Schedule Your Journeyman Gas Fitter Exam
Once you're approved to take the Journeyman Gas Fitter exam, you can register online to take the exam at a test site near you.
Take the Exam
Take the exam at the test site of your choice. After your test, your scores will be available right away.
If you don't get a passing score, you may retake the exam within 12 months of the date your exam application was approved by the Board.
Get your license
If you pass the Journeyman Gas Fitter Examination you can get your license by submitting a licensing fee at the test site.
