Apply for a Local Acquisitions for Natural Diversity (LAND) Grant

Municipal conservation and agricultural commissions from communities with an up-to-date Open Space and Recreation Plans can apply for a LAND grant to acquire interests in land that will be used for conservation and passive recreation purposes.

What you need

  • Appraisal reports
  • Application authorization signed by authorized officials
  • Town meeting or city council vote
  • Project description and maps
  • Draft Conservation Restriction (if applicable)
  • Project reviews from Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program and Massachusetts Historical Commission

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via EEA’s new Grant Management System. Applications must be submitted before 11:59 pm on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Potential applicants are encouraged to attend the in-person information session hosted in Westborough on May 7 at 11:00 am. A virtual information session for those that cannot attend in-person will be held on May 6 at 2:00 pm via MS Teams. RSVP to Vanessa Farny (vanessa.farny@mass.gov) to receive details.
