What you need

A reconstructed title is issued to a vehicle that was previously titled as salvage repairable but that has been repaired, inspected, and re-titled as reconstructed.

A recovered theft title is issued to a vehicle that was previously titled as salvage repairable theft with damage sustained from a theft and that has been repaired, inspected, and re-titled as recovered theft.

How to apply

After you pass the salvage inspection, to apply for a reconstructed title or recovered theft title, you must bring the following documents in person to any RMV Service Center:

  • A completed Registration and Title Application. If registering the vehicle, your insurance agent must stamp the  form.

  • The current salvage repairable title with the assignment of title section(s) on the back of the title completed. Additionally, an authorization for payoff of a salvage vehicle (if applicable)

  • Current certificate of registration (if applicable)

  • $75.00 title fee

Please allow 4 to 6 weeks after receipt of the application for a Reconstructed Title or Recovered Theft Title to be processed and mailed.
