The Details
What you need
To apply for a school pupil transport (7D) certificate, you must:
- Hold a valid Class A, B, C, or D driver's license for 3 continuous years immediately before application
- Be at least 21 years old
- Pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check
- Pass a SORI (Sex Offender Registry Information) check
- Complete 2-hours of pre-service training through your potential employer
- Have a satisfactory driving record
- Pass an eye exam, a physical exam, and a written knowledge exam
- If you were issued a standard Class D license after July 1, 2023, you will need to provide proof of lawful presence
- If you have an out of state license, you will need to submit a driving record and CORI dated within 90 days of your application

Suitability Letter
If you have 5 years driving experience, you can submit a Letter of Suitability from the school district or Early Education Council instead of an out of state CORI (criminal background). The letter must comply with 603 CMR 51.00 requirements.
