Renewal Requirements:

  • Renewals should be completed on a desktop or laptop computer using either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser. The online platform does not function correctly on a mobile or tablet device.
  • To link your license to the portal for the first time, you will be asked for your license number and date of birth. You no longer need a registration code to link your license.

  • There is no renewal fee for a Building Official Certification.

Continuing Education Requirement

  • 110.R7.3.1 Continuing education requirements. Within each three-year period following initial certification, the registrant to maintain certification shall complete 45 hours of continuing education credit acceptable to the BOCC. Conditional appointees as defined by R7 shall attain at least one contact hour of education credit for each month of employment until such time as the conditional appointee has successfully completed the required examination schedule and is certified as prescribed.
  • New Building Officials: If you were certified during this renewal cycle, you are required to maintain 1.25 hours per full month you are certified.

  • If you are deficient in CEU hours as listed on the above state website, please submit proof of meeting the minimum continuing education requirement on a Form B to bocc-ma@mass.gov immediately. Other Important Information

  • Licenses not renewed by their expiration date are expired. The use of an expired license is subject to civil fines, civil penalties, and may result in the loss of your license.

Online User Requirements:

You need to upload all supporting documents required for your license.

  • Scanned documents MUST NOT be larger than 3 MB in size. 
  • ID Photos MUST meet US Passport 2" x 2" photo specifications.
