What you need   for Prepare for and schedule your Real Estate license exam

If you want to become a broker or salesperson in Massachusetts, you must meet the following requirements before taking your exam.
 

To apply for a salesperson license, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Complete 40 hours of real estate education
  • Complete a Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Educational Certificate form from a Board approved Real Estate School
  • Get 3 candidate endorsements
  • Endorsements cannot be from people related to you or fellow classmates from the real estate course
  • Endorsements can be from people who are not Massachusetts residents 
  • Pass your licensing exam

To apply for a broker license, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have at least 3 years of experience working for an active Massachusetts broker (at a minimum of 25 hours per week)
  • Currently hold a Massachusetts salesperson license
  • Complete a Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Educational Certificate form from a Board approved Real Estate School
  • Complete 40 additional hours of real estate education
  • Have a notarized $5,000 surety bond completed and signed by an insurance agent and the principal candidate/examinee
  • This must be the original, a copy is not acceptable
  • Successfully complete your licensing exam

How long is my license valid?

  • Licenses are valid for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years
  • The issue date is the date the candidate passed their examination
  • The expiration date is the candidate’s date of birth
    • For example, if the license is issued on March 15, 2019, and the candidate’s birth date is April 1, the license will expire on April 1, 2021

The exam fee is not refundable or transferable, and is valid for one year from the date it was paid.

If you miss your exam, you will need to pay a $54 retake fee in order to reschedule.

How to apply   Prepare for and schedule your Real Estate license exam

Online via PSI

  • Go to PSI’s Registration site 
  • Select “Sign up” to create an account. You will be prompted to create an account with PSI
  • After you submit the form, you will get a message that your account was created successfully. Select “Login to Continue”
  • The username is the email address you entered when creating the account
  • Select either the Salesperson or Broker Examination and then enter your personal information
  • Enter payment information and pay the fee
  • You can choose either to test in-person at a PSI test center or remotely 

Email

Complete the PSI registration form including your credit card number and expiration date. Email the completed form to PSI at MA.ApplicationProcessor@psionline.com

  • Email registrations are accepted 24 hours a day
  • Processing can take between 15-20 business days from the date the form is received 

To register via phone, call (855) 340-3704 to speak with a live registrar

  • The registrar hours are 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST on weekends
  • You will need a valid VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover card to pay the fee over the phone 

Complete the PSI registration form and send the form with the appropriate examination fee to PSI at the following address:

You can pay fees by company check (personal checks are not accepted), money order, or cashier’s check. You can also fill out your credit or debit card information. 

  • Cash is not accepted
  • Please print your name in the memo section of the company check, money order or cashier’s check to ensure the payment is applied to your registration

  2. Pass the Exam

    You need to score a minimum of 70% correct to pass.

  3. Receive your License

    All licenses are printed and issued at the testing centers regardless of where exam was taken, online or in-person, after successful completion of the exam. Please be prepared to pay license fee at the testing center. If you take the test virtually you will be sent instructions on what to do to obtain the license from PSI.
