What you need

You can set up a prepaid phone account for an inmate through the GTL AdvancePay system. A prepaid phone phone account allows inmates call your phone number without standard billing restrictions. If an inmate calls a blocked number, the AdvancePay system will give the call receiver the option to set up a prepay account.

If you set up a prepay account, the inmate can make collect calls to your number using funds from the account. When your account funds get low, the system will give you the option add money to your account.

To make an account, you must pay $25 or $50 payment by credit card. 

You can pay to set up your account with either a Visa or MasterCard debit or credit card. After your account is set up, you can make your payments through:

  • Check
  • Money order
  • Credit card 
  • Debit card
  • Western Union and Money Gram wire transfers

How to register

You can follow the instructions from the AdvancePay website to create your account. 

To set up an account by phone, you can call the AdvancePay service department at 1-866-230-7761.

More info

  • If you want to receive a monthly statement, contact the AdvancePay system or service department to request your call records. Monthly statements aren't mailed.
  • If you want to check your account balance, you can call the AdvancePay system.
  • If an inmate is released and there is still money on the prepay account, contact the AdvancePay service department. You must mail or fax a written request for a refund of your account.
  • You must request your refund within 180 days of the last call received. Refunds are processed within 60 days after your request is received.

Notice to Verizon customers: Verizon has discontinued the ability to place collect calls to a Verizon phone customer. Verizon customers must contact GTL directly to establish a “Direct Bill Program” or create an “Advance Pay” account.
