What does 1-800-QUIT-NOW offer?
The Massachusetts tobacco and nicotine Quitline offers:
- Free and confidential one-on-one coaching to help you quit tobacco or nicotine — whether cigarettes, e-cigarettes/vapes, chew, or other tobacco or nicotine products
- Judgment-free phone, email, and text support to help you stay on track
- You can receive automated emails and text messages tailored to the product you use and your readiness to quit. You can also receive materials and track your quit progress online.
- Help with making a quit plan that is right for you
- Quit coaches can offer advice on medicines and how to get through cravings
- Free quit medicines (patches, gum, or lozenges) delivered to your door — find out if you are eligible
- Specialized support if you use menthol, are pregnant, American Indian, under 18, are a young adult, or have lived experience with substance use or mental health conditions
- Support if you’ve already quit and need help staying nicotine-free
1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) can also connect you with one-on-one counselors and quit-smoking groups in your area, and help you find out if your health insurance covers additional quit services.

How does 1-800-QUIT-NOW work?
Who is eligible
You must be a Massachusetts resident, 13 years of age or older for any coaching program, and 18 years of age or older to receive quit smoking medicines, such as nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) (for example patches, gum, or lozenges). 12-year-olds may use the phone coaching program only (no web program).
What to expect
Once you call or enroll online, we’ll connect you with the resources and support you need to quit nicotine.
- We are open 24/7 all year long (holiday hours may vary)
- We get to know you during the first call. Up to five coaching calls are available to help you with your quit journey
- If your health care provider refers you to 1-800-QUIT-NOW, you will receive an initial call within 24-48 hours to get started on your quit journey
- You can place unlimited calls to the Quitline for support; eCoach (via online chat) programs are also available
- Friends and family, providers, educators, professionals, and others can also call with questions to support a loved one along their quit journey
Quit medicines
If you meet certain medical eligibility requirements, eight weeks of nicotine replacement therapy is provided FREE of charge after speaking with a quit coach. Patches, gum, or lozenges are shipped directly to your home.
Language services
We offer services in several languages — English and, Spanish, and Arabic speaking coaches are available. If you or a loved one speak a different language, interpretation services are available for 200 languages for most Quitline programs.
- Spanish speakers may call 1-855-DEJELO-YA directly to speak with a Spanish-speaking coach
- Do you speak Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean or Vietnamese? 1-800-QUIT-NOW coaches can help you with interpretation services or refer you to the Asian Smokers’ Quitline.

Support for people who are currently pregnant
When you contact the Quitline:
- You will receive up to nine coaching calls: five during pregnancy and four after birth (postpartum)
- You have the same dedicated quit coach for all calls
- You can earn up to $65 on a gift card just by participating
- Automated text messaging, email support, and tailored materials are available
Support for residents who use menthol products
If you indicate you use menthol tobacco products, you may be eligible for an incentive program (based on availability):
- You can earn up to $50 in gift cards just by participating
- You will receive up to five coaching calls, the first three of which are included in the incentive program
- You must complete coaching calls via telephone to receive the gift card(s), even if you enroll online
Eight weeks of nicotine replacement therapy is provided FREE of charge after speaking with a quit coach if you meet certain medical eligibility requirements. Patches, gum, or lozenges are shipped directly to your home.
If you are enrolled in the Menthol Incentive Program, you may also receive services under the Behavioral Health Program (see below)
American Indian Commercial Tobacco Program
If you identify as American Indian, you can enroll in the American Indian Commercial Tobacco Program.
- You can access services through a dedicated phone number (1.855.5AI.QUIT) and ma-americanindian.quitlogix.org
- General inquiry chat allows you to reach staff to ask general questions of the program
- You will receive up to 10 coaching calls with dedicated American Indian quit coaches
- Automated text messaging and email support is also available
If you meet certain medical eligibility requirements, you can receive eight weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy after speaking with a quit coach. Patches, gum, or lozenges are shipped directly to your home.
Behavioral Health Program
You are eligible for the Behavioral Health Program if you match the following criteria:
- Have at least one of the following behavioral health conditions: anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, or substance use disorder
- Are 18 years or older at intake
- English is your preferred spoken language (other languages may be available in the future).
You will receive up to seven coaching calls. Eight weeks of nicotine replacement therapy is provided free of charge after speaking with a quit coach if you meet certain medical eligibility requirements. Patches, gum, or lozenges are shipped directly to your home.
Program for youth who use tobacco or vape (My Life, My Quit™)
The My Life, My Quit program provides tailored, confidential support for youth 12 –17 years old
- 12 year olds may call to sign up for My Life, My Quit. Web and text enrollments are available to teens 13-17
- Access to My Life, My Quit is also now available through an app on iOS & Android
Youth can benefit from a coaching model that is youth-specific and developmentally appropriate with specially trained Youth Coach Specialists (YCS). They will receive up to five coaching sessions by phone, live texting, or online chat.
Youth can opt in for automated text messages designed for your age group and tailored by the type of tobacco you use and your readiness to change for anytime support or countdown to quit

Program for young adults who use tobacco or vape
The program provides tailored, confidential support for young adults 18–24. Learn more about what young adults can expect from the Quitline.
Young adults have access to the features of the general program for 1-800-QUIT-NOW, with the addition of live text coaching. They can opt in for automated text messages designed for your age group and tailored by type of tobacco use and readiness to change for anytime support or countdown to quit.
