Update
MassDOT, the City of Newton and the design consultant have spent the spring developing short and medium term improvement alternatives based on the previous public outreach/workshops. The entire project team is working diligently to narrow down the initial list of alternatives to a short-list of the strongest alternatives to present to the public for comment at the next public meeting, which is anticipated to be in early fall of 2023.
Project Details
MassDOT is studying short-term and mid-term improvements to Newton Corner. Short-term improvements would be low-cost, possibly immediate changes to improve safety and mobility.
Potential short-term actions to improve operations:
- better traffic signal coordination and timings
- striping and sign changes
- bus stop relocations/consolidations
Mid-term improvements could include geometric and traffic control modifications and/or:
- lighting and landscaping for safety purposes
- better pedestrian, bicycle and transit accommodations
- changes to abutter access/egress
- on-street parking
