Summary of the legislation
Chapter 197 of the Acts of 2024 provides that EOHHS will convene the task force to make recommendations about the viability and sustainability of long-term care facilities.
The task force shall consist of: the secretary of health and human services or a designee, who shall serve as chair, and the following individuals and representatives:
- The secretary of elder affairs or a designee
- The commissioner of public health or a designee
- A representative of long-term care facilities
- An operator of an assisted living residence
- A representative of residents of long-term care facilities in the commonwealth
- A health care economist
- A representative of LeadingAge Massachusetts, Inc.
- A representative of Local 1199 SEIU
- A representative of Massachusetts Association of Residential Care Homes, Inc.
- A representative of the Massachusetts Senior Action Council, Inc.
- A representative of Massachusetts Senior Care Association, Inc.
The task force’s mandate is to evaluate the viability and sustainability of long-term care facilities and to draft a report that includes recommendations and any proposed legislation necessary to carry out its recommendations. This report must be sent to the following executive and legislative offices by July 31, 2025.
- Clerks of the senate and house of representatives
- The joint committee on health care financing
- The joint committee on elder affairs
- The senate and house committees on ways and means
