Brigadier General Milano served during the Vietnam War prior to his appointment as a Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is also the President and CEO of the Union Oyster House.

Joseph Milano has been the Honorary Consul General to Thailand in Boston, Massachusetts since 2002. He is also the President and CEO of the Union Oyster House, America's oldest restaurant and a National Historic Landmark.
Before serving as Honorary Consul General, HCG Milano was Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1997-2004, a Presidentially appointed position. He served as the Vice President of the United Nations Association of Greater Boston.
HCG Milano graduated from Norwich University in 1966 with a degree in Biology and commissioned as an officer in the US Army. He is a retired Brigadier General who actively served for 3 years during the Vietnam War. In 2003, Norwich University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate degree in Public Service.
HCG Milano has been awarded The Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant in 1994, conferred by His Majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and the Most Notable Order of the Crown of Thailand in 2004.
In 1989, with the city of Cambridge's approval, Mr. Milano officially designated the corner of Eliot and Bennett Streets in Cambridge, MA as King Bhumibol Adulyadej Square, in recognition of the King's birth at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He also organized the Dedication and Unveiling Ceremony of King's Square and oversaw its Beautification.
HCG Milano has been married to his wife, Jill, for 49 years. They have four daughters and nine grandchildren.
