Swansea Beach Waterfront Redevelopment | Construction is complete on a new bath house and lifeguard building on Swansea Town Beach, part of a beachfront revitalization project. The master plan was accepted by the Town in October of 2014, and several elements have already been implemented, including beach nourishment, dune grass plantings, and a pocket park on Bay Street. The site design for this building also includes an access road that the Town will use for regular beach nourishment via a “feeder beach” that works with natural longshore currents to distribute sand along the beach. |
Barnstable County/Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Planning Grant | The project will advance the region's maritime economy and bring increased, consistent and sustainable prosperity to the Cape and Islands by leveraging its natural coastal resources, the innovative ideas of the local community and existing marine related industries, to increase the number of businesses and jobs in the Cape and Islands region that are not heavily dependent on the seasonal/tourist economy. |

Chatham Old Mill Boat Yard Construction Phase | Improvements to the Old Mill Boat Yard public landing facility included replacement of an existing deteriorated bulkhead system, new float systems and other amenities to provide for enhanced public use and berthing opportunities for the boating public. Project has environmental component (containment area for powerwashing the commercial fishing vessels) plus general repairs, renovations and improvements to this publicly-owned commercial facility. |

UMass Dartmouth Wave Energy Converters | Tethered Ballast System: The primary accomplishment of the funded project was the development and validation of the tethered ballast system using a numerical model formulated in MATLAB, along with laboratory tests of a prototype ballast system used to corroborate drag and added mass coefficients used in the model. This effort is described fully in a M.S. thesis (Tarantino, 2018), available for download through the UMass Dartmouth library. |

Rockport Straitsmouth Island Boat Landing Facility | One of the most important maritime objectives of Rockport is tourism. By opening up access to this pristine 29-acre island for the first time in over 80 years, it will attract boaters, kayakers, hikers, bird watchers and people wishing to tour both the historic lighthouse and the keeper’s house. Currently, fewer than 50 visitors land on the island each year. This is mainly due to the lack of a proper and safe landing facility. The Town expects to increase that number exponentially once a ramp has been built. Walking trails have been established, the keeper’s house and the lighthouse have been already restored. |
Salem Commercial Marina at Salem Wharf | Establishment of Salem Harbor's only public commercial marina. Located within the boundaries of Salem's Designated Port Area, this facility consists of 11 slips with floats, mooring piles utilities and ramps and serves a range of industrial and commercial uses such as Salem's water taxi, excursion boats, commercial fisherman and commercial yachts. |
Salisbury Beach Center Boardwalk | Construction of a oceanfront boardwalk will provide the catalyst which will create market demand and viability of the private sector investment. The boardwalk is Step One in the re-birth of an extremely important piece of the Town's rich history and the promising future of Salisbury Beach. |
Saugus River Walk - Design and Permitting phase | First and foremost, the RiverWalk project seeks to support and sustain locally based lobstermen by creating new economic opportunity. Attracting local citizens and leisure visitors alike to a newly accessible and inviting Saugus River bank will set the stage for the establishment of new restaurant and retail businesses which could include direct sale of Saugus lobstermen's daily catch. Zoning recently created for the Saugus River waterfront seeks to both attract and facilitate mixed-use development and support the planned RiverWalk through easements and alternatively payments into a fund to help maintain the facilities. |
