Bass River Bridge Replacement

Construction for the Bass River Bridge Replacement Project is anticipated to begin in 2024. The bridge will be demolished and reconstructed one side at a time. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during construction. Work will take place during the off season, focused on fall, winter, and spring, rather than the summer to avoid peak traffic. The project team has coordinated their construction staging plans with both Towns’ emergency services to ensure sufficient access across the bridge.

Main Streets Intersection Improvement

The current construction plan for the improvements along Main Street and North Main Street/Old Main Street will require lane shifts, alternating one-way traffic, and shoulder closures. It is anticipated that alternating one-way traffic will only be done during non-peak hours. Traffic will be required to be maintained throughout the work zones during construction. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project’s duration. Access to adjoining businesses will also be maintained.

Construction will begin in Winter 2024 and be completed in 2025.

What to expect during construction

Accelerated bridge construction methods and prefabricated bridge units will be used to reduce the duration of impacts to the traveling public, river users, and abutters.

During construction, crews will maintain:

  • Vehicle access across the bridge with two lanes of traffic,
  • water navigation below the bridge, and
  • pedestrian access with a temporary pedestrian bridge.
