Project summary
The Town of Plymouth requested In-Lieu Fee funding to restore wetlands on a retired cranberry farm. This project builds on the Town’s larger watershed management plan. It will restore about 25 acres of healthy, natural wetlands. Restoration will involve several techniques. The town will expand shallow areas and grade the bog surfaces so water can drain. They will also remove berms, ditches, and structures to allow water to flow naturally. It is a common practice for cranberry farmers to use sand in their bogs to improve productivity. The town will move some of this sand to upland areas and enhance the surrounding landscape. Earth under the sand can become compacted. Re-grading these areas will help diverse native plants grow and thrive. The Town owns the property and will protect and maintain the restored wetlands. The site will be open to the public for passive recreation, such as walking and nature viewing. Visit the Town of Plymouth’s website for more information about the site.
