Categories of Work: Doors & Windows, Metal Windows and Glass & Glazing
Doors and Windows is a Prime Category of Work. Metal Windows and Glass and Glazing are Filed Sub-Bidder Categories of Work. In some instances, Metal Window and Glass and Glazing projects can fall under the Category of Doors and Windows and count towards Prime Certification. Doors and Windows is defined in the Guidelines as follow:
A Glass and Glazing project worth $80,000 does not qualify for Doors and Windows on the Prime side. It only qualifies as a Filed Sub-Bidder project given the definition of Doors and Windows.
A Metal Windows project worth $80,000 does qualify for Doors and Windows on the Prime side. It also counts as a Filed Sub-Bidder project.
A project with $40,000 worth of Glass and Glazing plus $40,000 worth of Metal Windows does qualify as an $80,000 Doors and Windows project on the Prime side. Each Category also counts on the Filed Sub-Bidder side.
Glass and Glazing and Metal Windows are defined in the Guidelines as follows:
****Glass and Glazing is specifically excluded from projects that solely consist of correlated window systems, which include metal curtain walls and aluminum/store storefronts and entry ways.Below is a sample where the contractor included Glass and Glazing as part of the project. Based on our definition this project does not qualify based on the scope of work. Any evaluation that simply says storefronts or curtain walls should raise questions as to whether Glass and Glazing applies. In general, the answer would be no without additional info.
Curtain wall projects must also be confirmed to be made of metal/aluminum before they can be qualified as a Metal Windows project. If you have questions or concerns about a category of work, do not hesitate to contact our office. We are here to assist you in your Certification journey.
