When Is DCAMM Certification Required?

Here is another interesting article for you from Contractor Certification. We have had questions about when DCAMM Certification is required, and when it isn’t. There seems to be some vagueness around it, and we thought it would make a helpful topic for this communication. DCAMM Certification is required on projects bid under M.G.L. C.149 OR C.149A and the estimated cost is over $150,000.

Demystifying DCAMM Certification

DCAMM Certification promotes a fair and even playing field for contractors. As well as, provides Awarding Authorities with a robust pool of ethical, responsible and fiscally sound contractors to bid on public building projects. When deciding if Prime DCAMM certification is needed all four of the follow criteria must be meet:

  • Project must be published under Chapter 149 or 149A
  • Bid must be put out by an Awarding Authority (a public entity within the boundaries of the Commonwealth)
  • Project must be for the construction, reconstruction, demolition, maintenance, or repair of a building
  • Construction cost must be estimated to be over $150,000

For Filed Sub-Bidders there is an additional requirement:

  • The sub-bid category of work in one of the 18 trades is estimated to cost over $25,000.

If a project falls below the $150,000 threshold or as bid under a different Chapter, DCAMM Certification is not required.
