Chelsea Retirement Board is Seeking Applicants for Board Member Position
The Chelsea Retirement System is seeking qualified applicants interested in serving as the Fifth Member of the Retirement Board for a three-year term commencing on January 29, 2027.
Chelsea Retirement Board members act as fiduciaries of the Chelsea Retirement System, which currently has approximately 862 active members and 436 retirees. Chelsea Retirement Board members perform their duties solely in the interest of Chelsea Retirement System’s members and their beneficiaries, in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, the rules and regulations promulgated by the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC), and the rules and regulations adopted by the Board and approved by PERAC.
The Fifth Member cannot be an employee, retiree, or official of the City of Chelsea or any of its governmental units. The Fifth Board Member will be interviewed and chosen by the other four
Retirement Board Members for a three-year term. Interviews will be conducted at the Chelsea Retirement System’s offices, located at 90 Everett Ave., Suite 5, Chelsea, MA 02150 on November 17, 2026.
The Chelsea Retirement Board meets once a month - generally the third Thursday of each month at 9:00 AM – with additional special meetings as needed. Board members are paid an annual stipend of $4,500.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with MGL Chapter 32
- Availability/flexibility to attend regular meetings and special meetings
The Fifth Member will be required to
- Attend monthly meetings and special meetings as needed
- Complete eighteen hours of educational training during the three-year term, with a minimum of three hours to be completed annually but with no more than nine hours to be credited in any one year
- File an annual Statement of Financial Interest with PERAC
- Complete Conflict of Interest and Ethics training biannually
- Develop knowledge of Massachusetts Open Meeting Law
- Develop knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 32
