The Newton Retirement Board is seeking applicants for the position of Fifth Member of the retirement board. Pursuant to M.G.L. c.32, s.20(4)(b), the Fifth Member may not be an employee, retiree, member of the Newton Retirement System or an official of the City of Newton or one of its governmental units and shall be chosen by the other four members of the Board. The Fifth Member, together with the other four members of the Board, acts as a fiduciary of the Newton Retirement System and is involved in the administration of the 3,600 member system. The Board meets one day a month, generally the third or fourth Tuesday of each month and at other times as needed. Monthly meetings last from 1-3 hours and all meetings are held at Newton City Hall. This is a three-year term with an annual stipend of $3,000.
Term of office: January 1, 2027 to January 1, 2030
The Fifth Member will be required to:
- Complete 18 hours of training to continue serving during their three-year term. A minimum of 3 hours of training must be completed annually but no more than 9 hours may be credited in one year.
- Complete and submit certain disclosure forms, including an Annual Statement of Financial Interest, to the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC).
