The Stoneham Retirement Board is seeking qualified applicants to fill the Fifth Member board position for a three-year term commencing January 6th, 2027. The Fifth Member, together with the other four members of the Board oversee its Retirement System, which disburses retirement benefits and provides retirement-related services to approximately 800 active, inactive, and retired members, as well as their beneficiaries. The Board meets one day a month, generally during the last Tuesday of the month at 2:00pm in Town Hall. The Fifth Member is also required to complete 18 hours of educational sessions, complete state conflict of interest/ethics training, and file an annual statement of financial interest with the Public Employees Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC). In addition, the Fifth Member must learn and become proficient in state retirement law and local board policies and procedures. Travel to local meetings and training is also necessary.
Applicants for the Fifth Member position shall not be an employee, a retiree, or official of the Town of Stoneham or one of its governmental units. The position is a volunteer position.
