Divorce nisi
The divorce nisi is the time between when a judge grants your divorce and when the divorce becomes final. During this time, both people have a chance to change their minds. They can make sure that the other person didn’t lie about their property before the divorce is final. You don’t need to do anything during this time, and your divorce will become final automatically.
Final divorce
You can’t remarry until the nisi period is complete.
- A “1A” divorce isn’t final until 120 days from the date of the judgment.
- A “1B” divorce or fault divorce isn’t final until 90 days from the date of the hearing if a judgment is entered.
Getting your divorce decree
Once the divorce is final, you won’t receive a divorce decree from the court. This may also be referred to as a "Certificate of Divorce Absolute".
You can request a certified copy of your divorce decree from the court that granted your divorce. See Get a copy of your divorce record for information on fees and the required form.
