Forms of Signature

Guidance on acceptable forms of signature for use on grant-related documents

Either traditional or electronic signatures of authorized signatories may be included on grant documents. These forms of signature are acceptable:

  • Traditional “wet signature” (ink on paper);
  • Electronic signature affixed using a digital tool such as Adobe Sign or DocuSign;
  • Electronic signature that is either:
    • Hand drawn using a mouse or finger if working from a touch screen device or
    • An uploaded picture of the signatory’s hand drawn signature.

If using an electronic signature, the signature must

  • Be visible,
  • Include the signer’s name and title and
  • Include the date the document was signed.
