FY27 Shannon Community Safety Initiative Q+A

Questions and answers regarding the FY27 Shannon Community Safety Initiative and Local Action Research Partner opportunities.

Questions and Answers

Q: I'm looking to clarify the text limitations for one of the questions on the application.  The first question under "Project Summary," after selection of the Core Strategies states a limit of 250 characters. This limit is significantly different than what was allowed on last year's application. Would you please confirm what the intended limit is for this question on the FY2027 application? Is it 250 characters or 250 words (250 words is actually 1,250 characters)?

A: It is correct as it is. We are looking for no more than 1 – 2 sentences here.

Q: On the Letter of Intent, who should be listed as the point of contact: The PI or an administrative official from the organization?

A: Whoever will be handling the majority of the grant communications.

Q: I submitted a letter of intent to apply for [a Housing Authority], but just noticed that on the application it restricts applications to a certain number of entities/agencies. Is there any way for [a Housing Authority] to apply to this grant or is restricted to these communities and agencies?

A: This application is limited to eligible municipalities. Your agency could apply through one of the eligible municipalities.

Q: I had a question regarding the first bullet under the "Preference will be given to applicants that" list: "Demonstrate high levels of youth violence, gang problems, and substance use in the region." Does the "substance use" in this sentence connect to youth or gangs, and the standard Shannon youth age range, or just any substance use or overdose data from the city?

A: The “substance use” referenced in that bullet should be connected to your Shannon youth population. This could include substance use among youth within the standard Shannon age range, substance use related to gangs, or either of these.
