Harvard Commons, Mattapan

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts acting by and through the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) issued a Request for Proposals to develop a portion of the former Boston State Hospital (BSH) Campus. As a result of the competitive process, DCAMM selected Cruz Development Corporation to purchase and to redevelop 18 acres of the east campus of the former BSH property.

Details

Over the course of 20 years, Cruz Development Corporation has invested over $40,000,000 in the creation of 97 housing units in three phases on the former Boston State Hospital (BSH) Campus in Mattapan. This development is over 200,000 SF and includes 54 homeownership units and 45 rental units. Ten of the rental units are reserved for Department of Mental Health clients, and  forty-six percent (46%) of all the units are affordable with deed restrictions.

To date, there have been approximately 200,000 hours of construction labor put into BSH redevelopment, with 70% of those hours coming from women and/or minority owned business enterprises. In total, this has created over 175 jobs for women and minorities in construction.

Currently in construction is a four-unit development for Department of Mental Health clients to be completed by March 2026.
