How the Workplace Safety and Health Program works

Inspection priorities

WSHP conducts inspections based on the following priorities:

1. Imminent danger conditions
2. Accident and fatality investigations
3. High-hazard activities
4. Complaints and referrals
5. Follow-up inspections
6. Random programmed inspections

Citations, penalties, and corrective actions

When an inspection identifies a violation of a workplace safety and health requirement, WSHP may issue a civil citation requiring the employer to correct the violation. Employers may request extensions when they demonstrate progress toward correcting hazards and have implemented interim protections for employees.
