Learn about the Quabbin Boat Seal program

All private boats must have a Quabbin Boat Seal (QBS) to launch on the reservoir. There are two methods of getting a seal for your boat and trailer.

Table of Contents

Boat Decontamination program

The Boat Decontamination program uses high temperature water to completely wash the:

  • Boat
  • Motor
  • Trailer

High temperature water kills any aquatic invasive species.

Your trailer and boat will be sprayed down and the motor flushed.

No carpeting allowed anywhere on the trailer, including bunks and side rails.

This program costs $60 and is only available by appointment.

A pre-inspection questionnaire and check-list must be completed prior to the decontamination.  Click here to fill out the required questionnaire.

The CWQ program is a visual inspection of your boat and trailer done during the winter.

You must clean your equipment at the end of the season and let nature take care of the rest. Freezing temperatures and dry conditions kill any aquatic invasive species.

This free program is available by appointment only.

A pre-inspection questionnaire and check-list must be completed prior to the decontamination.  Click here to fill out the required questionnaire.

Boater ID Card

A boater ID card is created when you obtain a Quabbin Boat Seal by either the Boat Decontamination or Cold Weather Quarantine program. This plastic boater ID card makes the tag in and tag out process at the Boat Launch Areas easier for the attendants.

Quabbin Boater ID Card

Your boater ID card is required to launch a private boat at Quabbin Reservoir.  Click here to fill out a form if you lose your card or need to update contact or boat information information updated; a new card will be mailed to you.

Your Boater ID card is NOT your season pass, which is a separate card. Since you need to have your season pass for parking/launching at the boat launch areas, please always keep both your boater ID card and season pass card on you.
