Massachusetts Cable Operators by Community

Find out which cable television provider serves your community.

Cable operators must obtain a cable television license from a municipality before providing cable television service in that community. These licenses are non-exclusive, meaning a municipality may grant licenses to more than one cable television provider. Federal and Massachusetts law also permit municipalities to own and operate their own cable television systems.

Neither federal nor state law requires a cable operator to provide service in a particular community. As a result, cable operators make independent business decisions about which cities and towns they choose to serve, subject to successfully negotiating and obtaining a cable television license from the municipality. 

If your community is not currently served by a particular cable operator, you may wish to contact your local cable advisory committee or the municipal licensing authority (such as the City Manager, Mayor or Select Board) to determine whether discussions have taken place with other cable operators about serving your community.

Important: The existence of a cable television license does not necessarily mean that service is available at every address within the community. Service availability may vary based on an operator’s network deployment or the terms of the cable television license. Contact the cable operator directly to determine whether service is available at a specific address.
