Town of BarnstableCotuit Channel Dredging and Dead Neck-Sampson’s Island Nourishment III$500,000Removal of an estimated 40,000 cubic yards of sand from the Cotuit Bay entrance channel. This is the third and final phase of a multi-year project to expand navigation for recreational and commercial users. Additional benefits include beach nourishment for coastal storm protection and improved water quality for shellfish farms.
Town of ChathamStage Harbor Entrance Dredging FY21$550,000Removal of an estimated 25,000 cubic yards of sand from the Stage Harbor entrance channel. Dredging will preserve navigation for more than 50 commercial fishing boats and coincide with the reconstruction of the Trap Dock Pier, an offloading location for the largest fishing fleet on Cape Cod. In 2018, nearly $19 million in commercial fisheries landings were reported in Chatham.
Town of DennisSesuit Harbor Maintenance Dredging FY21$75,000Removal of an estimated 15,000 cubic yards of sand from the Sesuit Harbor entrance channel. Dredging will preserve navigation for a wide range of recreational and commercial users, including more than 40 commercial and for-hire fishing boats. In 2018, over $3 million in commercial fisheries landings were reported in Dennis.
Town of TisburyLake Tashmoo Channel and Pier Dredging$129,700Removal of an estimated 10,000 cubic yards of sand from the Lake Tashmoo channel and the Lake Street Town Pier. Current conditions make navigation hazardous for deep-draft vessels during low tides. Dredging will restore navigation for all users, including commercial fishermen who rely on the Town Pier for off-loading of catch.
