Mosquito Surveillance

Mosquito Surveillance is a part of our mosquito control efforts.

Purpose

Surveillance 2

The purpose of surveillance is to monitor for human health threats from mosquito-borne arboviruses, as well as to determine mosquito populations and diversity for appropriate control methods. It helps us figure out whether our control programs are making a difference.

How it works

We monitor adult mosquito populations through our trapping program. Mosquito species are identified and tested for arboviruses such as EEE and West Nile virus. This helps us limit the spread of diseases they may carry.

Mosquito larvae are also monitored to determine and document active breeding sites.
