MPTC Police Academy Scholarship Program Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet minimum requirements including:

  • Massachusetts resident who self-identifies as economically disadvantaged and/or as part of an underrepresented population within the law enforcement profession.
  • Student Officers must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years old on the first day of the police academy.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pass a CORI Check conducted prior to acceptance.
  • Provide proof of adequate insurance or obtain health insurance and have it remain in effect through the entire academy program.
  • Successfully complete the Massachusetts Human Resource Division’s (HRD) Physical Ability Test (PAT) and HRD Medical Exam and Drug Screening.
  • Pass the Entry-Level Fitness Standards. 

All student officers are expected to understand the demands of the academy and arrive prepared on the first day. The most significant factors in this preparation are weight control, aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. *Download the MPTC's Health & Wellness Preparation Guide for detailed information on preparing for pre-academy evaluations.

Documentation needed

Legible copies of the following documents are required with submission of an application:

  1. MPTC Scholarship Program Application
  2. One-page resume or work history 
  3. Copy of Valid Driver’s License
  4. Copy of High School Diploma/Equivalent
  5. Personal Statement
