Chapter 306 of the Acts of 1996 requires that each City or Town Retirement Board in Massachusetts have two elected members.
The term of the fourth elected member of the Chelsea Retirement Board expires this year and an election must be held to fill this position. The term of the election would be from December 18, 2026 – December 17, 2029.
The date of this election will be December 8, 2026.
840 CMR Section 7.07 of the Standard rules for Elections states that an election shall be conducted either entirely by mail or at a polling place. The Chelsea Retirement Board has determined that this election will be conducted entirely by mail.
Both active and retired members of the Chelsea Retirement System, including the incumbent, may qualify as a candidate by filing with the Chelsea Retirement Board a nomination paper containing the signature and address of at least 20 members of the Chelsea Retirement System, including active and retired members.
Inactive members cannot serve as an elected member, but they can vote for a candidate.
Surviving spouses of deceased members are not eligible to sign these nomination papers or to vote for a candidate.
Board Members of the Chelsea Retirement System receive a stipend in the amount of $4,500 annually.
Nomination papers will be available August 31, 2026 and may be obtained in the office of the Chelsea Retirement Board, on or after that date, and must be filed by 5:00 p.m. on October 19, 2026.
If more than one candidate is duly nominated, ballots- printed with the names of the nominees- will be mailed to all active, inactive and retired members, and must be returned to the Retirement Board office by December 7, 2026, before 5:00 p.m. on that day.
