Notice of Election: Members & Retirees

This notice informs the members and retirees of the Methuen Contributory Retirement System that there will be an election for the Elected Member of the Methuen Retirement Board. This position is currently occupied by John T. Sheehy. In accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. Chapter 32 and 840 CMR 7.00 this election will be held on December 15, 2026. The term of office for this position is January 1, 2027 — December 31, 2029. Eligible candidates must be members in service or retirees of the Methuen Retirement System.
- This is a paid position with an annual stipend of $3,000.00 which is paid in monthly installments of $250.00.
- Board meetings are held once a month at 9:30 am, typically on the 3 rd Thursday of the month in City Hall.
- The average board meeting is 30 minutes with the occasional 2 hour meeting when hearings need to be held.
- While meetings are open to the public, meetings are not recorded by MC TV either by video or audio.
Nomination Papers
Any interested member or retiree of the Methuen Retirement System may qualify as a candidate by filing with the Methuen Retirement Office nomination papers. These nomination papers must contain the signatures and addresses of at least twenty (20) members or retirees of the Methuen Retirement System. It is suggested to collect a few extra signatures in case any are deemed ineligible. Nomination papers will not be given to third parties. Identification is required. The last day to submit completed nomination papers is October 22, 2026, by noon.
Ballots
This election will be conducted by mail in accordance with election laws that govern retirement board elections within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Ballots will be mailed to each member and each retiree on November 16, 2026. Ballots must be received in the Retirement Office no later than December 14, 2026, at 4:30 PM.
