To Members and Retirees of the Newton Retirement System

There will be an election held for one of the two Elected Member positions on the Newton Retirement Board. 

Purpose

To elect the (1st) Elected Member* to the Newton Retirement Board in accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. Chapter 32, 840 CMR 7.00 (see current list of Retirement Board members below). 

Term of Office and Position Requirements

Term:  December 13, 2026 – December 13, 2029 

Attendance at monthly Retirement Board meetings which are currently held the 3rd or 4th Tuesday of the month at a designated meeting room in City Hall (9am). Board members are also required to earn 18 educational credits per 3-year term through various seminars and course offerings (both in person and online) as approved by the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC).  Retirement Board Members receive an annual stipend of $3,000.   

Eligible Candidates

Members-in-service and retirees of the Newton Retirement System. 

Nomination Papers

Any member-in-service (employee) or retiree of the Newton Retirement System may qualify as a candidate by filing with the Newton Retirement Board Office a nomination paper or papers containing the signatures and addresses of at least twenty (20) members or retirees of the Newton Retirement System.

Nomination Paper Filing Deadline 

Completed nomination papers must be filed with the Retirement Board Office by Friday, September 25, 2026 (12:00 noon). 

Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballots will be mailed to all active, inactive and retired members (anticipated mailing date – November 10, 2026). 

Ballot Deadline

Absentee ballots must be received by 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2026. 

Tabulation of Ballots

Room B15, HHS Conference Room, Newton City Hall 
Wednesday, December 2, 2026 - Tabulation begins at 9:00 a.m.  

Announcement of Election Results

Members (Departmental Posting & email): December 2, 2026 
Retirees: With December 31, 2026 pension payment
