Roles and responsibilities of the Ombudsperson’s Office
The Distributed Generation (DG) and Clean Energy Ombudsperson is responsible for the following clean energy, climate change, and DG matters:
- Being easily accessible
- Facilitating and reviewing the Good Faith Negotiation process of parties involved in interconnection disputes
- Offering independent problem-solving assistance
- Managing public inquiries and complaints
- Maintaining open communication with electric companies, stakeholders, and other government agencies, including enabling education and outreach
- Overseeing and advising on cases, programs, and projects
- Supporting the Commission and Division of Regional and Federal Affairs
- Assisting senior management, leadership staff and Commission in:
- addressing state consumer energy policies,
- updating state elected officials,
- explaining DPU policies and practices, and
- providing information to support the development of energy legislation and statutory reforms
- Assisting the Commission in the development of new policies or regulations
Historical development of the Ombudsperson’s Office
- In 2013, D.P.U. 11-75-E approved the creation of an Interconnection Ombudsperson role at the DPU on a trial basis for an interim of one year.
- In 2014, D.P.U. 11-75-F made the interconnection Ombudsperson a permanent position.
- In 2020, D.P.U. 19-55-A expanded the Ombudsperson role to become the DG and Clean Energy Ombudsperson.
