The Cambridge – Alewife Brook Parkway Bridge Superstructure Replacement project is entering the construction phase. Design was completed in August 2025, and the Notice to Proceed was issued in December 2025.
Construction activities will begin with site mobilization in June 2026, followed by installation of a temporary utility bridge in August 2026.
Major bridge replacement work will take place during two accelerated construction weekends in summer 2027. The project is expected to reach substantial completion in spring 2028.
The project will utilize Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques to improve efficiency and significantly reduce impacts such as noise, dust, road closures, and utility disruptions.
